Dive into Fort Myers Fishing
Whether you're celebrating National Go Fishing Day or simply chasing your next big catch, cast your line into the abundant waters of Fort Myers Beach. From calm backwaters to offshore adventures, Fort Myers is a true angler’s paradise year-round.
Inshore Fishing: Exploring the Backwaters
Estero Bay offers calm waters teeming with snook, redfish, spotted seatrout, and mangrove snapper—ideal for kayak fishing and light tackle enthusiasts. Nearby Matanzas Pass and Hurricane Bay are popular for sheepshead, flounder, and juvenile tarpon, perfect for fly fishing and sight casting.
Pro Tip: Live bait like shrimp or pinfish works wonders for snook and redfish, while soft plastics and topwater plugs attract seatrout. Fly fishers should pack Clouser Minnows and Deceivers.
Nearshore and Offshore Fishing: Deep Sea Adventures
Venture to artificial reefs and wrecks located 10-20 miles offshore to hook grouper, snapper, king mackerel, and cobia. Seasonal migrations bring Spanish mackerel and bonito in spring and fall, while summer is prime for red snapper and gag grouper. Target permit and blackfin tuna during peak seasons for an exhilarating challenge.
Charter your adventure: Pink Shell Resort offers on-site charter bookings with experienced captains, featuring half-day and full-day trips catering to both novice and expert anglers.
Iconic Species of Fort Myers Beach
- Snook: The "linesider," found year-round near mangroves and docks; best fished with live bait for an exciting fight.
- Redfish: Copper-hued with signature tail spots; fall is prime time for shallow flat fishing.
- Tarpon: The "Silver King" dazzles anglers from April to June; famous for their acrobatic leaps and catch-and-release excitement.
Family-Friendly Fishing Spots
- Bowditch Point Park: Enjoy shoreline fishing with family-friendly amenities.
- Lovers Key State Park: Kayak fish through mangrove channels brimming with flounder, redfish, and snapper.
- Sanibel Causeway: Cast your line for jack crevalle, ladyfish, and pompano from accessible bridges and causeway islands.

Everyone was so friendly from check in to check out. Clean rooms, beach and pool!! Great amenities-paddle boats, kayaks, bikes and activities for the kids!

The Pink Shell is and remains the absolute best on FMB. Great property only exceeded by the fantastic staff that are always pleasant, professional, polite and go out of their way to be helpful. We look forward to our next stay.
This resort gets an "A" for effort! And views! And staff! And food! Fort Myers is recovering from the hurricane last year. I don't know how the Pink She'll has pulled it off but they did. They are up and running and doing an excellent job. Thank you for a phenomenal vacay, Pink Shell!
Tons of amenities, great location. Marina is rebuilt and ready to use! Location is awesome because getting there and getting off the island is super easy.

The Pink Shell Resort is a beautiful unique hotel overlooking a calm gorgeous beach with a family friendly vibe. Our suite was immaculate with all new features. The most important aspect to me was the service.
The Pink Shell is a great place for a family vacation. They are on a beautiful spot on the beach, a short walk from Bowditch Point Park and close to Times Square,, with everything you need for a great trip. We stayed in one of the one bedroom villas and it was fantastic to have a full kitchen and laundry machine right in our room. The staff were friendly and helpful too. We'd totally go back.
